Donegal Intercultural Platform Community Development Project

A critical ally for positive, inclusive social change

WHO WE ARE

The Intercultural Platform is committed to creating the conditions for a more inclusive, equitable and anti-racist society.

We are a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) that supports people and communities interested in working towards inclusion and equality in Donegal and in promoting human rights and challenging discrimination and racism. We were founded in 2009 and became a company in March of 2021 – (company limited by guarantee – a not-for-profit company in Irish law).

In 2021, we were successful in winning core funding from the Department of Rural and Community Development under the Community Development Programme and we opened our new intercultural offices in Letterkenny in January 2022.

We are now expanding our work in supporting and advocating on behalf of members of Black and Minority Ethnic communities experiencing poverty, exclusion and racism and creating the conditions for progressive social change.

In September we opened our new Intercultural Hub next door to the project office as a site for workshops, meetings and community development work engaging the Black and Minority Ethnic communities in Letterkenny.

Using a community development approach, the project will continue:

  • Expand the base, capacity and resources of the Platform
  • Promote an understanding of interculturalism, equality and human rights
  • Target the most excluded, disadvantaged & undocumented
  • Challenge individual and institutional racism and discrimination
  • Support the inclusion of people seeking international protection
  • Create the conditions for inclusion, participation and representation of
  • Black and Minority Ethnic Communities in civil society at all levels
